SUNSPOTS 29th OCTOBER 2003

 

The sun was unusually active for this point in the solar cycle. These naked eye visible sunspots produced a series of flares which caused extensive aurorae on 29th /30th October. One of the flares was measured as > X28, the largest ever recorded.
